Semantic Google Ads

This article is currently a work in progress. Among other things, I will be adding some sample JavaScript which loads ads from an XML file.

Today, Google AdSense creates an <iframe> element in its place with the relevant ads inside. The goal of this document is to demonstrate a semantic XHTML version of Google AdSense. Ideally, JavaScript code would read a set of relevant ads from an XML dataset using XmlHttpRequest, and then output the HTML as seen below. This would most likely decrease bandwidth spent, and more importantly it would allow web designers to alter the appearance of the ads directly through CSS.

The following set of ads have been styled to grow vertically. The whole ad collection is represented by a definition list (<dl>), with each title being a definition term (<dt>) and each text (including URL) definition description (<dd>).
